David AR White, the Man Behind the “God’s Not Dead” Movies, Is Getting a Divorce | Beth Stoneburner | Friendly Atheist | Patheos

David A. R. White is the co-founder and managing partner of Pure Flix, the Christian film studio, and has been seen in a number of their projects. He was even the main character in God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness.

By now, we’re all familiar with how those films promote a conservative Christian view of the world. God’s Not Dead pitted a young Christian against a militant atheist college professor. Unplanned was an anti-abortion propaganda film that played strictly to its base and nobody else. It’s everything right-wing Christians dream about.

That’s why it may come as a surprise to the company’s base that White recently announced the end of his 16-year marriage.

A post shared by David A.R. White (@davidarwhite) on

Andrea Logan said on her own Instagram feed that the marriage ended “years ago” but it wasn’t public until now.

The couple both revealed that the decision did not come lightly and was made “after a great deal of prayer and counseling over many years.”

“We have waited quite a while to share this news with the public, as we wanted to give our family the time and space to heal and process all that unfolded during such a difficult time,” both statements noted.

Marriages, unlike Pure Flix films, are complicated. No one knows what White and Logan were dealing with, and it’s nobody else’s business. They clearly want to keep it private, so the public ought to respect that.

That said, this announcement comes on the heels of another prominent Christian couple that is also separating: Jen and Brandon Hatmaker, Christian authors and podcast hosts.

While commenters at the Christian Post are disparaging the idea of divorce in general, there appear to be far more comments expressing sadness and compassion for White than for Hatmaker. Hatmaker, it seems, is universally condemned as a heretic and apostate who is “reaping what she sows.” As of this writing, I didn’t see any comments questioning White’s salvation or sincerity of faith.

Meanwhile, at Charisma, there’s a news article about Hatmaker’s divorce. You won’t find anything about White’s.

Why do you think that is?
