Goodbye Chick-fil-A: 2017 Donations To Southern Poverty Law Center, Leftist Groups Revealed ⋆ The Political Cowboy

Welp, anyone left wringing their hands over whether or not eating at Chick-fil-A can still be justified just got a cold splash of certainty.

Late last month, the fast food giant formerly fondly referred to by this writer as “The Lord’s Chicken” made the controversial decision to cut all charitable funding to so-called “anti-LGBT” groups like The Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

According to a report from Townhall, the Chick-fil-A Foundation’s 2017 tax forms show that at the same time they funded groups The Salvation Army and various and sundry para-church ministries and charities, they also funded a gaggle of far-left groups like the notorious Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

Nestled in among an extensive list of beneficiaries, SPLC can be found on page 11 of Chick-fil-A’s 990 having received $2,500 for “civic/community programming.”

Given what we know of SPLC, who routinely classifies conservative and Christian groups as “hate groups” alongside the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis, one can only imagine what kind of “programming” Chick-fil-A paid for that year:

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins issued a scathing statement on the donation, reminding readers of an attempted shooting by an LGBT activist at FRC headquarters inspired by Chick-fil-A president Dany Cathy’s 2012 remarks on gay marriage and facilitated by SPLC’s “hate map:”

Tax reports have now exposed Chick-fil-A for funding the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center; an organization linked in federal court to domestic terrorism after their smear campaign of Christian organizations resulted in a shooting in which the gunman planned to smear Chick-fil-A sandwiches in the faces of his victims.

Not only has Chick-fil-A abandoned donations to Christian groups including the Salvation Army, it has donated to one of the most extreme anti-Christian groups in America. Anyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the ‘extremist’ label or even worse, their ‘hate group’ designation. At one point, the SPLC even added Dr. Ben Carson to its ‘extremist’ list because of his biblical views (and only took him off the list after public outcry).

Seven years ago, a shooter entered our building with the intent to murder as many people as possible and smear a Chick-fil-A sandwich in their faces. The gunman was enraged by the nationwide Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day held two weeks before and used the SPLC’s ‘hate map’ to identify FRC as his target. Despite being seriously wounded, the FRC building manager, Leo Johnson, heroically stopped the gunman. Dan Cathy, nor anyone with Chick-fil-A inquired about the well-being of Mr. Johnson or any of the FRC team members, but they made a donation to the SPLC which was linked in federal court to this act of domestic terrorism. Chick-fil-A has seriously lost their way.

At the time of their decision to cut funding to The Salvation Army, the Chick-fil-A Foundation’s Executive Director and VP of Corporate Responsibility Rodney Bullard said, “We don’t want our intent and our work to be encumbered by someone else’s politics or cultural war. If something gets in the way of our mission, that is something that we are mindful of and cognizant of.”

According to Townhall, however, SPLC is just one of several rabidly leftist groups funded by Chick-fil-A in that year alone.

At this point, I’d rather take my chances in the Thunderdome at Popeyes than give a single penny to Chick-fil-A.
