Plymouth’s best burger joint Zephyr Burgers plans to open a restaurant – Plymouth Live

A carpet and flooring workshop and showroom in Stonehouse could become the new home for an exciting Plymouth burger joint.

Plans have been submitted this week for the conversion of the site at 26 Stonehouse Street to become the new home and HQ for Zephyr Burgers.

The company started smashing burgers in London back in 2017, to by 2020, becoming the highest rated burger on Deliveroo – and in 2021, PlymouthLive readers vote them as the city’s best burger.

Having relocated back to Devon, Oz and Sheena bought a truck and have since been parked up behind the Bulletproof Tap Haus on Mutley.

But now, they have now submitted a pre-application to Plymouth City Council over their hopes for the premises for a permanent site in the city.

The details with the application outline how the space would house an open kitchen with casual bar style dining space to the front ground floor of the building with a larger more comfortable seating area upstairs. They would also hope to use the three car parking spaces for outdoor seating during the warmer months and would plan to build surrounding greenery filled planters to enclose the area.

Details with the planning application add: “We would like to propose a change of use and planning permission to allow the site at 26 Stonehouse Street to become the new home and HQ for our business – Zephyr Burgers. We would like to create an exciting destination dining space for local people and beyond.

“The space would house an open kitchen with casual bar style dining space to the front ground floor of the building with a larger more comfortable seating area upstairs, and the total capacity we imagine will be around 70.

“There will be a large prep kitchen on the ground floor which will be used to prep food to be consumed both on site and for our food truck which will be available to be booked out for events and festivals. Painting of the front brickwork would be carried out to fit our brand.”

It adds: “Customers will be able to order food for consumption on or off the premises so we would need to ensure the relevant license could be obtained. We would also seek to apply for a premises license in order to sell alcohol on site. It would also be our intention to utilise the three car parking spaces for outdoor seating during the warmer months and would plan to build surrounding greenery filled planters to enclose the area.

“Our opening hours will be 12-10pm Tuesday-Saturday and we will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.

“We are in the very early stages and have just agreed terms with the current owner of the site and before we go any further we would like to obtain confirmation of whether a change of use and planning permission would be granted.”

Plymouth City Council will determine the fate of the application at a later date.
