EUGENE — Popo Aumavae, Oregon’s No. 2 nose tackle, says he’s not playing in tonight’s season opener against Stanford.
Aumavae, the backup to Jordon Scott, indicated he won’t play tonight in a message on Instagram Saturday morning.
“Game day boys!!” Aumavae wrote with a picture of himself playing Stanford last season. “Sad I can’t be out there with yall. But I know y’all will get it done!!”
Aumavae had 15 tackles last season, including five for loss and 3.5 sacks, most coming against Pac-12 competition.
Redshirt-freshman Kristian Williams is Oregon’s No. 3 nose tackle. Williams and backup defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus will likely see increased reps in Aumavae’s absence.
