WooSox Farms, a garden at Polar Park to be sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care – masslive.com

In announcing itself as a corporate partner of the Worcester Red Sox, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care also entered into a partnership with the organization’s garden within Polar Park.

WooSox Farms, which will be located on the second deck of the third base concourse at Polar Park, will generate fresh produce aimed at benefitting the residents of Worcester and fans that visit the ballpark. The garden will grow produce for farmer’s markets, for ballpark dining, and for community uses throughout Worcester.

“Harvard Pilgrim has proudly served Worcester for over fifty years and we are excited to partner with the WooSox, further expanding our partnership with the Red Sox organization,” president and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Michael Carson said in a statement. “Our partnership with the WooSox brings together two organizations with a shared mission of supporting and giving back to our communities, and we look forward to working together in creating a positive impact in the Worcester community.”

WooSox Farms will be maintained by the Regional Environmental Council of Worcester, which subsidizes farmer’s markets in the city. Children from Youth Grow, a Worcester nonprofit, will also tend to the garden.

“We are proud to welcome Harvard Pilgrim Health Care into the WooSox family of partners,” WooSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg said in a statement. “We are particularly excited to work with them on the creation and cultivation of WooSox Farms, a marvelous example of urban healthy nutrition and education. We look forward to exploring how this model can further benefit the residents of Worcester beyond Polar Park.”

Polar Park is expected to open in time for the start of the 2021 season in April. This week crews began installing seats in the lower bowl.
