8vo concurso Custom Diecast México: categoría Modified

Continuamos con la cobertura de nuestro 8vo Concurso de Customs, que tuvo como tema “Castings Fantasiosos”, con la categoría Modified, que permite que el custom tenga accesorios y modificaciones más significativas a la carrocería que en las dos categorías anteriores, además de lo usual como cambio de llantas, detallado general, etcétera.

We keep going with the coverage of our 8th Custom Contest, which had “Fantasy Castings” as its theme, with the Modified class, which allows accesories and much more extensive alterations to the car’s body compared with the two previous classes, on top of the usual wheelswapping, general detailing, etcetera.

Como se señala en nuestroreglamento, todas las categorías se juecearon siempre bajo el principio de que los customs presentados debían apegarse al tema del concurso. Dicho esto, los dejamos con los autos participantes y sus customizadores; más abajo podrán encontrar a los ganadores de los tres primeros lugares, con una pequeña sesión de fotos de cada uno, y comentarios de nuestros jueces acerca de por qué ganaron.

As stated in ourrulebook, every class was judged under the principle that the participating customs had to stick to the contest’s theme. Having said that, we leave you with the entries for this class and their customizers. Down bellow you’ll find the winners of the first three places, with a small photoshoot of each, as well as commentary from our judges regarding why they won.

Las dos menciones honoríficas de esta categoría recayeron en el 24 Ours 919 Hot Wheels de Edwin Sly Roca, y el Batimóvil Hot Wheels de Gavrik García.

The two honorific mentions for this class went to Edwin Sly Roca’s Hot Wheels 24 Ours 919 and Gavrik García’s Hot Wheels Batmobile.

Comentario de los jueces: El Fig Rig es un Hot Wheels compatible con figuras y piezas de Lego, que como juguete para niños es una genialidad, pero no es un modelo en el que muchos customizadores verían potencial; pero José tuvo la visión suficiente como para quitarle al casting las protuberancias que lo hacían compatible con los Lego adelante y atrás, rellenando con epóxica los huecos resultantes, lo que descubrió el potencial escondido del modelo, que gracias a su color gris metálico, se destapó como una atractiva camioneta que a muchos nos recordó a los concept cars de Chevrolet de mediados de la década pasada. Por haber visto potencial en el último lugar en donde se nos hubiera ocurrido buscarlo, José se llevó el tercer lugar de la categoría.

Judges comment: The Fig Rig is a Hot Wheels that is compatible with Lego figures and bricks, which is genius as a toy for children, but for this very same reason, it’s not a model that customizers crave, as its difficult to see its potential; but José had enough vision to smooth away all the protuberances that made the truck compatible with Legos at the front as well as the back, and filled out the resulting holes with epoxy. This, along with a metallic gray hue, brought to the forefront the hidden potential of the casting, turning it into an attractive truck that reminded us of the mid-2000s retro-futuristic concept cars from Chevrolet. Finding potential in the last place we would have looked for it gave José the third place of the class.

Hot Wheels Ollie Rocket

Comentario de los jueces: Otro caso de ver potencial profundamente escondido: Romher tomó un Ollie Rocket y decidió que con unas pocas modificaciones parecía una futurista nave, y lo primero que hizo fue las llantas y volverlas impulsores, muy al estilo de los coches voladores de Volver Al Futuro. Pero Romher no estaba conforme -¿cuándo está?- y fue aún más allá con el concepto del custom: una nave de carreras al puro estilo del Episodio l de Star Wars, o el anime Red Line. Para tal efecto, le agregó una ametralladora y le dio un tratamiento de pintura que simula ser óxido y maltrato y suciedad sobre el metal expuesto. Con un poco común pero buen concepto, y una excelente ejecución, Romher se llevó el segundo lugar.

Judges comment: Another case of realizing deeply hidden potential: Romher took an Ollie Rocket and decided it was futuristic enough that, with a few mods, it could be a futuristic spaceship, so he flipped the wheels and turned them into propulsors, like the Back to The Future flying cars. But Romher didn´t stop there –when does he?- and decided to go further with the concept of this custom: a battle/racing ship, just like those in Star Wars Episode last or the Red Line anime. He added some machine guns and gave it a paint treatment that simulates rust, wear and tear over bare metal. With quite an uncommon concept and an excellent execution, Romher took second place.

Hot Wheels Formul8r LMP2

Comentario de los jueces: El Formul8r de Hot Wheels parece un coche de carreras de resistencia del futuro tal cual sale del blister, por lo que Ahmed se decidió a concretar este concepto con detalles como el enorme alerón posterior, espejos y la cámara en la nariz, para finalizar aplicando una muy correcta decoración de Rebellion, un equipo profesional de la categoría LMP2 del World Endurance Championship, creando un LMP2 de un futuro que nunca llegará. Pocos customs en todo el concurso tuvieron un concepto tan bien logrado y definido, valiéndole a Ahmed la victoria en Modified.

Judges comment: Hot Wheels’ Formul8r looks like an endurance racer from the future right out of the blister, so Ahmed simply rounded out that concept with details like the rear wing, mirrors and the nose camera, and of course, the very correct Rebellion livery, a professional racing team from the LMP2 class of the World Endurance Championship, creating a LMP2 racing car from a future that will never be. Few customs in the entire contest had such a well achieved and focused concept, giving Ahmed the win in Modified.

Luego de cuatro concursos en 2017 y las categorías Basic, Repaint y Modified del quinto, así va la puntuación hasta el momento para el premio “Customizador del Año”.

After four contests in 2017, and the Basic, Repaint and Modified classes of the fifth one, here are the standings so far for the “Customizer of the Year” award.
